Islington Museum is one of a number of partners around the country contributing to Away from the Western Front, a two year project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This project looks to explore the heritage of the men and women from Britain and its former Empire who served in the campaigns of Salonika, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia and Africa, during World War I.
Local young people researched the experiences of the Finsbury Rifles, a local regiment who traveled first to Gallipoli, and then on to Egypt, Palestine and Syria. The group explored the war diary in our archives, before working with Chocolate Films on a week long animation course to produce three stop motion films.
We are excited to announce a display of the young people’s spectacular animations opening on the 14th November, and would like to invite you to join us to celebrate.
Bring the whole family (under fives welcome!) to explore animations made by local young people, create crafts to take home and take part in an interactive, imaginative storytelling experience!
