Projects are vital to Islington Museum and Local History Centre. Each project allows us to focus on a particular narrative, group or hidden story. Check out some of our current projects:
Bunhill Heritage
Three years, three artists, three works of public art. Bunhill Heritage works with the community to explore the rich history of south Islington.
Reimagining Islington Museum
Islington Museum is the hub for Islington Heritage Service. The museum tells the story of Islington through a collection of 4000 objects. In 2024 we are undergoing a full redesign, informed by public consulation, to deliver a dynamic, accessible, and engaging new museum for the people of Islington.
Build Your Own Museum
A National Lottery Heritage Fund Funded project delivering bespoke resources for the new museum. Developed in collaboration with Islignton residents, this project will equip the new museum with:
- Our Islington: a community-led flexible display space at the heart of the gallery, where residents can tell their Islington stories.
- Tactile Images: Replicas of objects and images which can be touched and handled. These support hands on learning and increase accessibility for blind or partially sighted residents.
- Family Trail: A paper gallery guide highlighting star objects and providing family friendly prompts and activities.
- Family Play: Explorer bags for families and under 5’s to encourage play and discovery in the gallery.
- School Resources: A pack of curriculum linked resources to support self-led school visits for Islington’s primary students.
- Audio-descriptive Guide: A gallery trail supporting blind or partially-sighted visitors in accessing the museum and discovering its key objects and stories.
- Translated Gallery Text: Key information and gallery content translated into the 5 most commonly spoken languages in Islington.
